Primary halo studies have been conducted at a worked gold mining area which is badly in want of expansion of reserves. The distribution of the elements was made clear by means of factor analysis and point group analysis, and ore potentiality was predicted for anomalies around deep-seated portion of the orebody and at the surface. Characteristics of primary halos display apparent zoning of elements:Fand Hg are concentrated at the top of the orebody, serving as distant indicator elements; Ag and Pb are mostly observed at upper part; low value zones of Cu, Ni, and Voccur at the middle; Au and factor loading anomalies are distributed around the orebody. The vertical zona-tion of elements was established with the help of zonality indexes; the existence of a hidden orebody and its probable depth of burial was forecasted on thebasis of the distribution of Hg halos and residual anomalies-Hg tends toincrease at 300 m level of the main ore vein (ore vein No. 3). The surface anomaly (NO. 55-1), whose association with an orebody had failed to be verified by previous drilling, was reexamined by the primary halo method, and the element association of the anomalies defined implies the existence of a hidden orebody.
