Abstract Based on the theory of paleomagnetism and geomagnetochronology that the Earth magnetic field has definite direction in a specific geological period, we can recognize anomalies related to mineralization through a comparision of residual magnetization directions between mineralized rocks and wall rocks. This paper has discussed the metallogenic chronological basis of a new magnetic exploration technique, put forward the parameters for expressing anomalies related to mineralization with "geological time" as the key concept, and with a practical example, briefly illustrated the potentiality of the new technique in ore-prospecting and exploration.
