Abstract The paper describes the method equipment and results in measuring the electric parameters of coal by a narrow pulse. It is a technique of time domain measurement with a numbr of advantages. Various properties of a matter over a broad frequency band can be measured simultaneously. It can be used for on situ determination of the properties of a material.The results obtained with different methods are basically in agreement and are proved useful in estimating properties of coal.It is observed in the experiment that the high frequency components of a pulse attenuate rapidly in coal, but the frequency components below 40 MHzcan penetrate very thick coal layer.
