Abstract Semiquantitative spectrographic analysis with "sample-spraying technique" has been conventionally used for years in the 1:50,000 geochemical survey. Its main defects in operation, however, appear to be the low sensitivity in determination of a number of elements, the poor accuracy and its systematic error. While keeping tc the main approach of "sample-spraying" the author has incorporated vertical-electrode spectrography, colorimetry and atomic absorpt-on spectrometry as required by analysis for different element. More rigorous routine monitoring measures have been adopted in the semiquantita-tive analysis with"sample-spraying" technique. Usefulness of the improved technique is illustrated in this paper with special reference to the re-analyses of the regional geochemical samples taken from both the western Henan and the western Yunnan areas.
