Abstract Based on a description of characteristics of the goaf and other geophysical anomaly fields, this paper emphatically deals with four ground geophysical exploration technologies, i.e., transient electromagnetic method, reflection wave method, ground penetrating radar method and EH4 magnetotelluric method, and, in combination with practical engineering examples, sums up the application effects as well as advantages and disadvantages of these technologies. Studies show that these methods have such superiorities as high resolution, low cost, rapidness, high accuracy and effectiveness, and can provide guiding data for safe production of the coal mine.
