Abstract At present, coal resources in Shanxi Province are being reformed, and the resource reserves will be checked after the merging of small coal pits. It is necessary to investigate the structure of the goaf that threats mine production,so as to get rid of hidden danger. Through a comparative study during data processing, the author has discovered that reflection seismic wave phase axis is concave downward, interrupted, and discontinued or interruptedly-continuous in the seismic section if the goaf is buried. In this paper, the goaf is interpreted by using seismic time section reflection wave feature. The result of seismic exploration for the goaf is as follows: totally seven 3#-coal goaf areas have been discovered, the total goaf area is 0.808 km2,and the limits of three goaf areas agree with the drilling data, which means that the interpretation result is well verified by drilling data.
