Abstract This paper mainly describes the application of the transient electromagnetic method to the exploration of coal goaf, and compares the effects of different loop line devices in the practical engineering work. The results show that the transverse resolution of the coincident loop device is higher, with the detecting depth reaching hundreds of meters, whereas the large fixed source line device can detect deep information and divide anomalies quite in detail.
