Abstract In order to investigate the discipline of induced eddy propagation in surrounding rock underground wholespace and the functional relation between the response of transient electromagnetic underground wholespace, wall rock resistivity and time, the authors computed the response of wholespace by using numerical simulation. The relation between the response and the resistivity of the wall rock was obtained by fitting the response curves of nine surrounding rocks drawn at the same time. The relation between the response and the time was obtained by fitting the response curves with time at the late stage. The ratio between the amplitude of the wholespace and that of the halfspace was obtained by comparing their amplitudes. The results show that the radius of the eddy ring maximum in the wholespace is smaller than that in the halfspace projected on the surface. The radius of the response decays with 1.5 powers to the resistivity of the wall rock, the response decays with 2.5 powers to the time, and the amplitude of the wholespace is 1.94 times that of the halfspace.
