Abstract This paper describes the automated Burris metal zero-length spring gravity meter produced by the Zero-Length Spring Corporation,USA,which is an upgrade of LaCoste & Romberg land meters. The new land gravity meter features the UltraGravTM control system, worldwide range with micro-Gal precision, and a fully integrated meter design. This paper also deals with the concept of the zero-length spring and the history of LaCoste & Romberg land meters.
