Abstract Systematic tests were undertaken to detect the performance of portable GPS, and a method was adopted for figuring out the internal parameters during the transformation of the coordinate system. The correction of the system parameter can make the positioning precision much more precise than the standard 10~15 m. Such a precision can meet the technical demand for the arrangement of large-scale or medium-scale geophysical and geochemical exploration networks.
