Abstract Based on grain size determination, X-ray diffraction physical phase analysis and element composition analysis of floating dusts over the intersections of No. 1 Ring Road and No. 2 Ring Road as well as the thoroughfare of Renming Road in Chengdu City, the authors studied the composition, contents and associations of elements as well as spatial distribution of floating dusts over Chengdu City. On such a basis, some preliminary suggestions are made concerning the reduction of floating dust pollution.
