Abstract Based on high-precision aeromagnetic survey conducted in 1988 and 1998, the authors deal with the basement structure and distribution of faults in Tarim basin. Some new opinions are put forward in this paper: the basin is characterized by double structure; Bachen uplift experienced clockwise rotation in Meso-Cenozoic period; Minfengbei and Keping arcuate folded-faulted zones are large-scale thrusting-nappe tectonic zones occurring at the southern and northern edges respectively.
