Abstract This paper sets up the relationship between the density of sedimentary rock and the sedimentary environment based on statistics of 611 specimens from Wumishan Formation. Moreover, this paper draws an image of sedimentary environment according to the spatial rock density distribution of Wumishan Formation. This case study supports the argument that petrophysics can be a useful tool to describe the sedimentary environment in detail.
