Abstract Based on collecting and arranging data from more than ten geoscience transects, tens of seismic profiles and magnetotelluric profiles as well as crust upper mantle shear waves, this paper has made a thorough study of the deep geophysical background of the auriferous skarn deposits. The authors hold that the lithospheric shear zones constitute the most important deep geophysical background of the auriferous skarn deposits.Being related to the distribution of mantle fluids, the intracrustal low velocity high conductivity layers control the auriferous skarn deposits, whereas the intersections of large (deep) fault zones control mineralization related intermediate acid magma. The joint restriction role of these factors can be used to delineate prospect araes of auriferous skarn deposits and gold (copper) skarn deposits.
