Abstract In highland areas,Bouguer anomalies observed on the undulating ground often take the shape related to the topographic relief. This leads to misunderstanding and renders the interpretation of the gravity anomalies difficult. In this paper, the author describes the causes of this trouble in Qiangtang,Tibet, and presents an effective approach to remove the false anomalies, which involves doing bouguer correction with relative height instead of absolute elevation and adjusting the density of the correction by making correlation analysis for the anomalies and elevations.
