Abstract The major and trace elements of sediment samples from PC5356,PC5362 and PC5417 drill cores in the Mid-Pacific Ocean were analyzed, and the result indicates that the contents of elements show three clear changes. Based on a detailed study, this paper discusses the material source of the three drill cores as well as the evolutionary regularity of the depositional environment in vertical direction.
