Abstract This paper deals with the composition and zonality of the primary halos around the Qibaoshan gold deposit, pointing out that the enrichment of tung sten element has indicator significance for gold mineralization. The elements in primary halos of the ore deposit show distinct zoned distribution, and the vertical zoning is especially clear and consistent fully with the general verti cal zoning model for primary halos around volcanic type gold mineralizations and deposits. This paper provides not only valuable data for ore prospecting, but also significant information for geological evaluation, exploitation and uti lization of the ore deposit. The element associations of primaiy halos play a guiding role in exploration of the ore deposit, and the delineation of the ano malies contributes to the correct determination of the shape and attitude of the orebodies. The study of spatial distribution of major mecallogenic elements in primary halos can provide theoretical basis for exploitation of the ore deposit.
