Abstract Based on the propagation of the surface wave in shallow strata and the correlation between surface wave phase-velocity and geotechnical parameters, the authors employed MASW to make engineering investigation, obtained the surface wave phase-velocity profile through data processing, and inferred the backfilling range of the field according to the surface wave phase-velocity structure. Drilling data show that the transient MASW is reliable and can yield good results.
