Abstract Mesh techniques were studied for the reason of large computational domain and model complexity in three-dimensional finite element modeling of electrical well logging. The authors employed a radial grid with parallel tri-prism to improve mesh quality and reduce the number of elements; Accurate element integration of parallel tri-prism was implemented by an affine transformation in order to shorten elements integral computational time; In combination with the unstructured mesh techniques, modeling under complicated condition was implemented. The computational efficiency and accuracy of the authors' schemes were examined by numerical experiments of several synthetic models. The modeling results under different situations are discussed.
