Abstract Based on reviewing the development of prestack depth migration, this paper has summed up several current prestack depth migration techniques, i.e., Kirchhoff integration, wave equation, and reverse-time migration. On the basis of analyzing the prestack depth migration imaging method in such aspects as wavefield, applicability, sensitivity of the near-surface condition and existing problems, the authors made a comparative study of different migration imaging results by comparing the migration sections, indicated the development orientation of the prestack depth migration and put forward some proposals for further study of prestack depth migration.
