This paper describes the present situation of the test techniques for hydrocarbon indices in sediment samples of marine oil and gas geochemical exploration, which includes sample collection, test techniques for light hydrocarbon and heavy hydrocarbon and the in-situ analytical and test techniques. The major existing problems are analyzed, and the development orientation of the test techniques for hydrocarbon indices in sediment samples of marine oil and gas geochemical exploration in future is discussed.
