Abstract In this paper, the author describes the principle as well as the data acquisition and processing method of the sonic wave tomographic imagery (sonic wave CT) from the angle of practice. For the purpose of guaranteeing the inversion precision and improving the initial data quality, emphasis is especially placed on prudent selection of seismic sources, record instruments and sensors as well as reasonable choice of acquisition and imaging parameters. With practical examples, this paper also deals with the application of sonic wave CT to foundation pile inspection and pile foundation exploration.
