Abstract Composite profile and induced polarization methods were applied synthetically to water searching and, as a result, a fault containing relatively abundant water was found in the working area. Then the authors arranged and conducted drilling and carried out an experiment of water-pumping. It is proved that the quality and quantity of groundwater can satisfy the requirement of the school, and hence the drinking water problem of Dongshan school is solved. The authors thus considered that the integrated application of composite profile and IP methods to water prospecting is effective in the red bed area.
