Abstract This paper deals with the present situation and the problems faced by the seismic exploration technique for coal resources, with the emphasis placed on some key problems which deserve further study and much attention in future, such as frequency, high-density collection, the strengthening of before-stack studies and the application of single-point seismic technique. The aim is the realization of high-precision exploration so as to meet the ever-increasing demands of the production work, construction and safety of the coal mine.
