Abstract This paper has summed up the experience acquired in the correction of traditional errors in applying "8"shaped observational technique of the spontaneous electric method to measuring the flow direction of groundwater, and discussed such aspects of the initial range as reasons for its generation, degree of its influence and the tackling technique. The compensation method in late stage dataprocessing is also dealt with in this paper.
