Abstract Following a discussion on the weakness of the traditional engineering geological exploration method in karst areas, this paper deals briefly with the principle and technique of the crosshole seismic CT method used for the detection of karst caves, and, with a practical example of engineering exploration, illustrates the prospect of this method in karst detection.
