Abstract Durimu faulted depression is a Cenozoic simple fault type depression in Erlian basin. Its surface is a part of Tengger Desert. According to surface geochemical exploration in combination with geological and seismic data, it is shown that this depression has fine oil and gas potential, with Menggule anticline being the most favorable area and Banxintu block and bulage anticline being favorable areas. The work has demonstrated the way for further work and also accumulated experience for geochemical exploration in desert areas.
