Abstract Signals of a pulse echo mode ground penetrating radar (GPR) possess typical nonstationary and nonlinear properties. In this paper, continuous wavelet transforms are adapted to analyze the field measurement data of buried cylinders and then the waveform characteristics of target impulse response are detected. The results show that the technique can be effectively applied to such problems in GPR signal processing as detection and time delay estimation.
