Abstract The present paper deals with the errors existent in routine datum plane statics under the condition of complex topography as well as the cause for the errors. The author puts forward a new field statics method-floating datum plane statics, which can completely eliminate the errors existent in the routine datum plane statics method and improve the quality of the seismic time profile as well as its interpretation precision.
