Abstract This paper deals briefly with the basic principles of applying time domain IP tothe exploration and evaluation of oil and gas fields. Based on the adoption of Canadian TSQ-4 high power IP system and exemplified by its application to several oil fields in North China and Northwest China,it is concluded that this method is inexpensive, effective, flexible, and suitable for complex topography, and hence its effecct is very obvious.
