Abstract Recently, the authors have developed rapid field analytical methods for someimportant indicator elements in geochemical exploration, and the analysis of Au is one ofthese methods. Gold extraction of Au under room temperature using a mixture of sodiumbromide, sulfuric acid, hydrogen peroxide is peformed to avoid the irritating odour of aquaregia digestion in field conditions. Polyurethane foam is used to concentrate Au. After Au isdeabsorbed by mixed reagents, buffer solution and other reagents are added, and then a lightfiber spetrophotometer is used to measure absorbance of this solution. This method is rapid, simple and sensitive, and its range of determination for Au is 0.5 μg/g to 50 μg/g. Eightysamples can be determined in one working day. The method could be used for xapid follow-upof regional Au anomaly and iu-situ preliminary examination of Au tenor of samples fromoutcrops, suboutcrops or drill cores.About 1500 samples from 5 gold districts were tested by the method and the results arevery satisfactory.
