Abstract This poper describes some newest developments of applying the induced polarizationmethod to water prospecting in such aspects as basic theoretical research, data processing andinterpretation software as well as instruments. The induced polarization method is an indirectmethod for water prospecting; nevertheless, achievements gained in years of work indicate that, combined with the application of other disciplines (such as hydrogeology), this method can ob-viously raise the geological effects of groundwater prospecting.
