Tests performed in the xiaoxigong gold district show that subsurface geophysicalprospectiong (logging and borehole geophysical prospecting) can be used to solve some geolo-gical problems that surface geophysical prospecting can handly tackle.For example, it proves to beeffective in finding out correlations bwteen ore beds of different depths in the same borehole,between are beds of neighboring boreholes and between borehole ore beds and surface orebodies,looking for blind orebodies around or at the bottom of the borehole and locating them rela-tive to the borehole, detecting the attitude of the ore bed within the borehole and its exten-sion along strike and dip, improving drilling quality and guiding sample-splitting anddetermlning local peological structure.
