Abstract The ZK5 hydrologic borehole(211. 67 m thick) has revealed an oil bed whichis over 70 m in total thickness and belongs to Cretaceous Bayanhua Group(K1b) .With the ZK5 borehole as the center,the satellite image has a"halo withanomalous hue". Within and outside this halo, the chloroform extracts of soilshow difference in content, and the points with content>50ppm are mainlyconcentrated inside this halo. Geochemical petroleum prospecting has discove-red in the depression four anomalies, of which the No, Ianomaly lies insidethe"halo with anomalous hue". There exist 31 heavy hydrocarbon and heavyhydrocarbon/carbonate anomalous points, which make up 60% of the total ano-malous points (53) in the survey area. The data obtained prove the geoche-mical petroleum prospecting to be effective in Baiyin Dulan depression.
