Abstract A rapid, efficient and interference-free method for simultaneous determi nation of fluorine, chlorine and sulfur in geological materials by means of pyrohydrolysis-ion chromatography is described. A set of pyrohydrolysis devices was designed and assembled. Accuracy of the method was evaluated through the analysis of 10 geochemical standard reference samples (GSR-3, 65 GSS-1, 3, 6, 8; GSD-11, 12) and was found to be in good agreement with the certified or recommended values. The detection limits of F-, Cl- and SO42-were 6.6, 30.8 and 36.8 ppm respectively, and the precisions (RSD, %) for samples containing 577 ppm F-, 70 ppm Cl- and 420 ppm SO42- were 1.8, 12.3 and 3.8% respectively.
