Abstract 197 Cretaceous samples from 21 sites and 129 Eogene samples from 15 si-tes along the Yaan-Tianquan section in Sichuan basin are studied paleomagneti-cally. Based on statistical analysis of the characteristic directions of remanen-ce, it is obtained that the paleolatitudes of Cretaceous and Eogene are respec-tively 32. 5°Nand 31. 7°N, and the paleopole positions are repectively φ= 172°E λ = 81. 8°Nand φ= 75. 7°E, λ = 88.1°N. In addition, the magneto-stratigraphicsequence of Cretaceous-Eogene is established, and some ideas about stratigraph-ic division and correlation are suggested. From the variation characteristics of dechnations and the wandeling pathof the paleopole, it is conciuded that, during the period from Cretaceous to Eo-gene, the sampling area must have first rotated clockwise and then counter-clockwise.
