Abstract Taking high-resolution seismic exploration test conducted at the Yongchengcoalfield in Henan Frovince as an example, this paper gives a description of thehigh-resolution seismic method and its effect in coalfield survey. Having raisedobservation frequency of the seismic wave, the researchers have obtained strongreflection waves from thin coal seam 2-5m in thickness or from thin coalmeasures 1-2 m in thickness. This achievement changes to a certain degree thepresent situation of indirect search for coal seams and their structures by rou-tine medium frequency coalfield seismic exploration, thus creating favourable con-ditions for accurate investigation of structural forms of coal seams as well asfor identification of faults with small throw, and providing basis for researchesinto properties and variations of coal seams.
