Abstract Using finite element forward numerical simulation method of point source two-dimensional media, and taking the vertical finitely-extended plate as the subject, the author has investigated the following regularities of numerical solutions for anomalies of apparent resistivity and apparent polarizablity with such devices as intermediate gradient, two-array, three-array and dipole-array under rather complex telluric conditions; (1) the effect of electric conductivity of the plate on the anomaly; (2) the effect of topography on the anomaly; (3) the electric conductivity of the overburden on the anonaly.
