Abstract This paper begins with an analysis of the necessity of regional electricalsurvey, holding that this method might bring about another drastic developmentof geophysical prospecting. Then it discusses the feasibility of regional electricalsurvey, indicating that valieties of electrical procpecting techniques are all dire-cted at the same target, and thus the idea "every variety has its own meritsand demerits, and therefore better one should be adopted" hinders us from con-ducting regional electrical survey. Analysis and comparison have also been madefor various techniques and facilities widely used at present. On such a basis, it isbelieved that the amplitude-frequency IPtechnique with dipole device is themost effective means for regional electrical survey. In addition, some opinionsconcerinng the performance of regional electrical survey, such as fund and org-anization, are also given in this paper.
