Abstract The magnetic susceptibility and remanence, as basic parameters of physical properties of rocks, contains plenty of geological information, However, in its measuring, magnetic susceptibility is often unreasonably regarded as a scalar. This paper suggests performing measurements of quite a few azimuths at the "As" position of the astatic magnetometer and, for the sake of reducing error, calculating optimum probable value of magnetic susceptibility tensor and rerna-ent magnetization vector. Experiment shows that the results are satisfied.
