Abstract Aimed at eliminating the effects of occurence mode of elements and gran-ulity of samples on powder spectrometry, the authors, after consulting some incomplete information from Soviet literatures and solving a series of technical problems in such aspects as designing and material and working conditionchoosing, have developed an"arc evaporation recovery device". Based on the principle of electic arc evaporation and electrostatic dust-accumulation recovery, this device turns various complicated natural substances into simple oxid es, and thus can recover materials with diameter less than 0.1 μm. It not only can tackle the samples with moderate to-high element contents, but also suits the pretreatment of samples of trace elements. Relatively satisfactory analytical results are obtained for samples pretreated by this device in combination with either powder-spreading method or ICP powder method.
