Abstract Magnetic method, very-low frequency electromagnetic method, transient electromagnetic method and IP sounding were employed to carry out gold prospecting and evaluation in an old gold ore district of Lingbao County, Henan Province, according to metallogenic geological conditions. Based on an integrated analysis and study of the geophysical data as well as the integrated geophysical prognostic criteria, the authors delineated six ore-prospecting target areas, which were proved to be related to gold mineralization by four drill holes. Ore-prospecting breakthrough was achieved in the shallow and middle parts of Fancha H8703 gold-bearing faulted zone of the Xiao Qinling Mountains, and a mine was brought back to vitality. It is proved that geophysical exploration is an economical, rapid and effective means in search for shallow and deep concealed or semi-blind ore deposits and hence deserves further popularized application.
