Abstract This paper proposes a new type of DC advanced detection device, which is named the "U"-shaped DC advanced detection equipment, with the purpose of improving the accuracy of the DC advanced detection and better eliminating or weakening the impact of non-ahead geological faults. The authors used the computer to simulate the prospecting process by using the "U"-shaped device and compared the result with that of the traditional DC advanced detecting device. The expected conclusions were reached. As the desired effect was obtained, the authors also carried out the flume experiments using the "U"-shaped device. A series of experimental data and simulations have led the authors to believe that the "U"-shaped DC advanced detection devices is efficient in detecting geological faults in a certain degree.
