Abstract On the basis of the seismic reflection and fault characteristics, this paper deals with supertrace-based coherence-estimation technique for complex fault interpretation and the actualization of this technology. To include more seismic traces in the coherence estimation, this paper introduces a supertace technique that constructs a new data cube by rearranging several adjacent seismic traces into a single supertrace. And the cube preserves the dip information contained in the original data cube, and reduces average effect of seismic attributes computation.By combining the supertrace technique with the wavelet transform of seismic coherence technology, the coherence value is estimated. The method has very fast calculating speed and can effectively suppress Gaussian noise. The result shows that this method is significant in comparison with the routine method. It can effectively enhance the faults continuity, which is helpful to trace strata and explain faults. It is especially adapted to low SNR seismic data structure interpretation.
