Abstract Based on an analysis of hydrogelogical conditions in southern Tongliao of Inner Mongolia, the authors inferred the distribution characteristics of the water quality and delineated the limits of soil salinization by using the airborne electromagnetic method(AEM) and the results of data conversion. The results of AEM exploration indicate that the re-salinized area is very insignificant, whereas the non-salinization area is very extensive; the groundwater resources of the northern plain area are rich and the Quaternary aquifer is a huge hosting space of interconnected groundwater with free surface.
