Abstract In a gold mine of Tanzania, Sm-30 magnetic susceptibility device was used to directly measure the magnetic susceptibility values of drilling core rocks (ores) in the absence of logging equipment; the depths of the drill hole and the magnetic susceptibility values corresponding to these depths were plotted similar to well logs. According to the curve characteristics of the magnetic susceptibility parameters, the division of lithologic horizons was conducted, and the strike of the gold ore bed was determined. A comparison with the drill hole geological columnar section shows that this method is quite effective.
