Abstract The terrain correction is one of the important steps to get airborne gravity Bouguer gravity anomaly;nevertheless, the tackling of the problem has a lot of difficulties and troubles. So it is significant to study the terrain correction of airborne gravity.Considering the characteristics of airborne gravity, the authors analyzed the relationship between the selection of the maximum radius in the terrain correlation and the calculation accuracy. In order to meet the requirements of an amount of grid data, the authors made a comparative study of the total resolution terrain partition method, the far and near partition method, and the adaptive quadtree method. The adaptive quadtree method can comprehensively consider the distance and elevation of the terrain cell, realize the best resolution of the terrain, and pick up the calculation speed without the loss of accuracy.
