Abstract Lead isotopic tracing is a method for identifying the ore-forming materials according to the lead isotope ratios of rocks, minerals and their relationships. This method was used to trace the geogas components of the Wangjiazhuang copper deposit in Zouping, Shandong Province. A comparison of the lead isotope ratios of ores, wall-rocks and soil with those of geogas samples by using ICP-MS analysis shows that the lead isotopic composition of abnormal geogas samples is in accordance with that of ores, suggesting that the lead in abnormal geogas samples comes from deep-buried ore bodies.
