Abstract Aimed at solving the problem of precision calculation and assessment in median region terrain correction, this paper puts forward a method for computing median region terrain correction precision by rotating digital elevation model (DEM) data and measured data,and discusses the feasibility of the method and the precision of the rotated data. At last, the precision of the 1:50 000 DEM data is evaluated with a high accuracy of 1:10 000 DEM data. The Comparative analysis shows that the rotation method is feasible and practical, and that the precision of the terrain correction can meet the requirement of 1:50 000 gravity exploration.
