Abstract Central-loop TEM sounding was carried out three times, and TEM soundings over the buried goaf was interpreted. The interpretation results show that the limits of the goaf are enlarged with time. The surface sink and the cracks detected demonstrate that the power building is in an unstable state. With the transient electromagnetic method, we can rapid obtain the electric information of strata in shallow or even great depth, interpret geological problems ideally, and get satisfactory detection result.
